Who We Are

MountainMuttDogCoats Boulder® was inspired by Mac who was diagnosed with bone cancer in September 2009. After being shaven for surgery Mac needed a really warm coat that fit him properly. His comfort and the needs of the many other cancer patients we saw at the Flint Animal Cancer Center at CSU showed us that there were old, ill and short-haired dogs that needed well-designed coats to get through our harsh Colorado winters. They needed coats that fit properly and offered protection from the elements.

After returning quite a few commercially made coats we were fortunate to find someone to make Mac a custom coat. It was made from black leather and lined with fleece. It fit his deep chest and short back. We made it with a collar to protect his vulnerable neck area. Mac’s coat became our prototype the following year.

Now our coats are made from top quality technical* fabrics and leather. They’re well-designed, generously cut, warm, water-resistant and lightweight. They fit the dog’s body comfortably.

Canine Cancer. It’s Personal.  Join Our Community in the Fight.

This is a cause we care a great deal about. By wearing our coat you become part of the community funding canine cancer research. It’s one of the things we can do together.

Each year we donate 5% of sales to the Flint Animal Cancer Center. We also donate coats to needy dogs and rescues around the USA.
All of our garments are handmade in Boulder, Colorado, USA.

*Technical fabrics are designed to wick away unwanted moisture, manage core temperature, and are highly water and wind resistant. These are the same outerwear fabrics you wear when biking, climbing, snow-shoeing. We’ve translated these wonderful fabrics into coats and sweaters for your dog.
